News 19/08/2010 - HOW TIME FLIES! Hi folks, This will be the last update for a while I should think. Things are becoming real. I'm sad about letting go of something that I love so very much and missing out on the opportuinity to see you all again soon.... The shows in France, the good ole' London crowd. Well, thank-you to those that came down to my last London gig on 4th August.... it sold out and was a truly heartbreaking and wonderful experience for me. I love singing for you. So very much. But now is the time for a little distance, a little perspective, and for other things. I am sure I'll keep singing whilst I learn new things. I can't stop writing words and hopefully the two will couple again at some point in the future. I've collected some rare and unknown songs for you, they're very rough, but they're here: www.aliwhitton.co.uk/demos as a zip file. There's thirteen songs on there. They're all true, so I hope you like them. The direct download is demos-and-rarities.zip (right-click and choose 'save as'). The newest EP is available to buy at iTunes and Amazon MP3 and many more stores. The iTunes link is: http://itunes.apple.com/album/ghosts-that-are-not-ghosts/id377695142 Thank-you from my little heart to everyone who ever believed in me. Ali x 02/07/2010 - THE FINAL GIG Hi guys, I am going to do one more London show before I leave and take some serious time out from music. Details are on the GIGS page. It's at Green Note in Camden on Wednesday 4th August 2010. It's a pretty small venue so please come down early. Also, click here for the FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE. Also, if you didn't know.... the new EP is now up available to buy at iTunes and Amazon MP3 and many more stores. The iTunes link is: http://itunes.apple.com/album/ghosts-that-are-not-ghosts/id377695142 Thank-you, and hope to see some of you very soon. Ali x 29/04/2010 - AN UPDATE ON THINGS Hi guys, It's been a while... Thanks to those that came along to the UK shows in March. I'm now hoping to do a London show in early June (TBC) and a little French tour in mid-June. Please keep an eye on the GIGS page in the next few weeks for this. Also, I've been recording some new songs for an acoustic iTunes EP that will be out mid-June I hope. This will be my last release for a while I expect, and also certainly they will be my last gigs for a while too. Things got a little tough last year and it triggered me to do a lot of thinking over the Winter and the start of 2010. I'm pretty resilient to the setbacks that come hand-in-hand with the rolling successes of trying to forge a career in music, but the creation of the second album last year knocked me quite hard. It dented the self-confidence that I'd never realised was really there (I'd always taken it for granted, I guess) and I suddenly got nervous about playing..... almost like I lacked belief in the songs that I'd written. I didn't know how to get back to how I used to be. Taking a step back from music is a difficult decision, but I've come to realise that it's what I needed to do. My aim is to get better at the technical side of my playing - piano, harmonica, banjo etc.... and to start playing for FUN again! And through all that I'm sure I'll continue writing. I'm also hoping to spend more time on creative writing which is something I've been pursuing recently. Sadly, but also excitedly - I am moving to New Zealand in the hopes that I might find this peace and perspective. I am open-minded and thus I don't have any idea how long I will stay there. Of course, either way - whether it becomes a permanent home for me or not - I will surely book to play shows whenever I'm back in Europe, whether it's a fleeting visit or not. The most important thing I have to say is a thank-you.... a very very big thank-you to anybody who has believed in me (and the band) over the last 6 years or so. This includes those of you that have helped me book shows here in the UK, book shows across the sea, created artwork for CDs, helped with new songs, given donations for the last album, given me a bed or a sofa when I'm on tour. It includes the wonderful group of musicians that I've been lucky enough to know and play alongside, who've played on the CDs and travelled the country with me.... in particular a big public thank-you to Sam - who has sung with me for about 5 years now. Finally, this 'thank-you' includes those people that have bought the CDs, played them to friends, and come along to shows. Someone told me once that "It all works out in the end"... and so, clutching that sentiment tight inside of my fist - I'll very much hope to see you again soon. Ali x
